The Bruins, who are riding a six-game win streak, will close the regular season with games against the Ottawa Senators and Washington Capitals with hopes of clinching home ice in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

However, they will have to do it without the help of their star forward Brad Marchand.

The NHL announced earlier today that Marchand will serve a two-game suspension for spearing defenseman Jake Dotchin in Boston’s 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Marchand’s five-minute major penalty was killed, but will ultimately force him to sit out for the remainder of the regular season.

Marchand finishes the regular season with a career-high 85 points, including 39 goals, leaving him one tally shy of becoming the first Bruin since Glen Murray (2002-2003) to score 40 goals in a single season. Including Murray, the past 25 years have only seen three Bruins eclipse the 40-goal plateau.

Marchand has played in all 80 regular season games for the Bruins thus far, but the suspension marks his third in the last two seasons.

He will return to the Bruins’ for game No. 1 of their first-round series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs next week.
