Boston Red Sox 17-year-old prospect Daniel Flores passed away Wednesday of cancer.
Flores, who signed with a $3.1 million bonus with the Red Sox in July, was in Boston receiving treatment for the disease.
The Venezuelan native was a switch-hitting catching prospect in the Red Sox organization. Some considered him the Red Sox top up-and-coming talent at that position.
He was ranked the second-best prospect in the international class, according to Baseball America.
