Jahad Thomas scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed eight boards to lead UMass Lowell past LIU Brooklyn, 74-66, on Sunday afternoon.
Thomas netted the first two points of this one at the 18:12 mark of the opening frame, and the River Hawks never looked back.
The Blackbirds made it a one-point game with 1:24 remaining, but Shawn Jones answered with a quick layup to push the River Hawks back out in front by three, 69-66.
LIU Brooklyn followed the UML make with a miss, which Rinardo Perry turned into an easy two, making it a 71-66 contest with 27 ticks to go.
The real edge in this one came from the free throw line as UML was able to connect on 15, to the Blackbirds eight.
