Behind 27 points from senior guard Matt Harris, UMass Lowell snapped its four-game losing streak with an 87-82 victory over Boston University on Wednesday.
Not only did Harris score a team-high, but with 7:38 remaining, he connected on a free throw, putting UML up, 62-57, giving him his 1,000th career point.
With 28 seconds left, a Cedric Hankerson 3-pointer brought BU within one, 81-80, forcing a UML timeout.
Out of the timeout, Shawn Jones knocked down a pair of free throws to make it an 83-80 game. BU’s Will Goff had a look at a trey, but came up just short, and two Harris free throws sealed the River Hawks’ win, which was UML head coach Pat Duquette’s 50th of his career.
In the loss, BU outshot UML, 56.3 percent to 50, but committed three more turnovers.
Max Mahoney led the Terriers with a game-high 29 points and Jahad Thomas chipped in 17 for the River Hawks.
BU hosts Elon (6-4) Sunday at 1 p.m.
UML is off until Saturday, Dec. 23 when Central Connecticut State (6-6) visits Costello Athletic Center at 1 p.m.
