UMass Fends off Dayton 62-60

Luwane Pipkins netted a game-high 25 points to help guide UMass over Dayton 62-60 on Saturday.

Of those 25 points, 14 came in the second half.

Up 60-58, Pipkins drilled a jumper to push the Minutemen’s advantage to 62-58 with 53 ticks remaining.

The Flyers responded with a pair of free throws, drawing them within two, 62-60.

UMass followed up the makes with a turnover, as Dayton had a golden opportunity to send the contest to overtime, but Darrell Davis came up empty on a jumper and the Minutemen held on.
After drilling nine 3-pointers in the first half, it was Dayton which held a 32-27 lead at halftime.
Tied at 47 with 10:14 remaining, the Minutemen would go on to outscore the Flyers 11-5 to claim a 58-52 advantage with 5:08 left.
Dayton had a change to tie it up in the final 1:30, but turned the ball over, leading to Pipkins’ jumper that sealed the UMass win.
UMass will remain home for a game against La Salle (7-9, 1-2) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
